Books are the compasses and telescopes and sextants and charts which other men have prepared to help us navigate the dangerous seas of human life ~ Jesse Lee Bennet
There is nothing better than a good book. I've always loved the smell of the fresh paper and crackle of the binding as you open something that has never been opened before, or the honk of an ancient, tea-stained tome you've picked up from a charity shop. Gratis - something is lost when you download to your kindle - but overall even a new download will get me super excited.
I thought I could give you a quick run-down of some new novel releases in this really quick post - have you read any of them?
- The Death of Bees, by Lisa O'Donnell
- Sweet Tooth, by Ian McEwan
- Noone is here (except of all of us) by Ramona Ausubel
- The Lost Year, by Mary Higgin Clark
- The Newlyweds, by Nell Freudenberger
- In One Person, by John Irving
I'm looking forward to buying one of these and heading over to my favourite book fair, on Embankment on the weekend, to pick up some classics.

I am actually reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower. My next read is "White Oleander :)
ReplyDeleteOoh I've never even heard of any of those books, will definitely check them out! I'm currently reading No 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith, which is a total light-hearted delight. I'm trying to read 50 books this year - I got to 48 last year, so fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally agree with your comment on my Hendzel & Hunt blog post - total dream boats!

These days I'm reading self-help books. I'm also always reading Bridget Jones' Diaries (1 and 2) and Marian Keyes book, they are easy reads and make me feel happy if I need to laugh or de-stress.
ReplyDeleteI have watched pilars of the earth on tv and now I also would like to read the books!
That reminds me, I have a queue of books to read.
ReplyDeleteI used to be part of book club at work, loved it. I read several that I absolutely adored there. Although it's a comic rather than a novel, if I was in charge Calvin and Hobbes would be mandatory reading too.
What's your favourite book or two ever?
I love this - I'm trying to read Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde at the moment (not the dirty trilogy which I shamefully plowed my way through...). It's quite challenging as I asked the guys at work to give me something quite alternative - it's based on the idea that what colour you can see determines your class. Trying to get my head into it and around the writing ... Not easy!
