Makeup Storage

Being a blogger I read so many fantastic blogs and the one thing you all have in common is fantastic make-up storage!

I live in a studio flat, which is far, far removed from the tidy and clean student accomodation and beautiful homes that I see on YouTube vids (Visit RockyOnna’s YT channel for my dream make-up station) It is a dive, to be perfectly honest. Add to that the fact that I’m very scruffy at the moment AND I live with a boy and quite often my home isn’t in a fit state to be photographed!

I am lucky enough to have my own bathroom (don’t be too jealous – again, I share with a boy) and since I pretty much own half of Boots, I really struggle to store all my bits and pieces.

The horrendous mess that was my counter-top

This space is chaotic and is largely turned into a tip when I’m desperately getting presentable for work in the morning! For weeks and weeks now I’ve been scowling at it and getting stressed out – there seems to be so little time in my day to actually sort things and they just get left and get scabby! I really detest living in a sty, which is what my home is becoming of late…

Well tonight I came home determined to do something about it! Ladies and gentleman, I present my newly streamlined makeup and beauty storage….

Et voila! I have put everything I don’t use reguarly under the sink and here I have the bits and pieces I use every day (yes, a rather terrifyingly large amount!)

Firstly my essential beauty bits – Sure for women deoderant, Dove summer body lotion, Liz Earle cleanse and polish & eye-bright eye make-up remover, Clean & Clear deep cleanser, my Eau Thermale Avene products which I reviewed earlier, my Estee Lauder night-time serum, Phyto system for frizzy hair (creme and leave-in conditioner) and finally fix-it nail-polish spray.

My daily beauty essentials

My hair stuff is fairly self-explanatory – the world’s worst hair-dryer which I keep meaning to replace and can’t afford and have no idea what to choose, my teeny GHD’s that used to be my boyfriend’s (he conveniently stepped on the bigger ones, so loaned me these) and my curling wand. I’ve got some very basic brushes and also my Vogetti Wonder Brush which is fab for volume.

This is all the gear for my hair (and you can just spot my Burberry Body perfume)

FINALLY my makeup. I’m sure some of you are horrified at how basic & spartan my every-day is, and I’m inclined to agree with you!

Firstly there are quite a few products here which have crept in over recent weeks – my Daniel Sandler foundation which I’ve used religiously since I won it in a competition gets honorable mention here. I need to do a review of it soon but I want to get a great camera for the job! I also got my original Naked palette last weekend on the way back from Spain in the duty free and I adore it – it’s replaced any other eyeshadow I use, since I really only ever wear neutrals. You can see the matching eye-shadow primer in the background too. The Bobbi Brown brick is full of lush pinky colours and I got it in a blog sale.

In terms of old fathfuls – I’ve used my old Lancome foundation and my No.7 concealer (which comes in a stick form) religiously for years. The exceptionally bright blush is from No.7 which is fab for my yellowy skin tone. The Rimmel bronzing powder is ancient and I really want to replace it with a good contouring powder (suggestions anyone?) My powder is also a Rimmel jobbie, their Stay Matte range which I swear I’ve bought since I was 15 (rescue me from my make-up rut please, commenters!) Finally I’ve got my Great Lash Maybelline mascara and a really basic eyeliner pen.

Finally there are some little samples which I always collect here to use day to day, my muslin Liz Earle cloth and my brushes. If you follow me on Twitter you will know that I was desperate for make-up brushes and I’m sure you can spot the Real Techniques brushes there! Can’t wait to use them!

I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my life! Please share any product recommendations or thoughts on my make-up in the comments – I really love hearing what you think!
